Potty Training

This week it was nice outside and due to that, Heidi decided to start potty training the little Saff. On Monday, she took her outside and put her in panties and let her have at it. So far this week, Saff’s gone in the potty over 50 times!! She’s gone on a regular potty, other people’s potties, a port-a-potty, her kiddo potty and even a few times in her pants. The poops have so far eluded the potty’s capture but they’re going to be caught soon enough.
We find that potty training is almost as much training for us, learning to ask her regularly and also watch for the visual clues that she gives us. Saffron is starting to tell us when she’s ready to go which is great for us, when we forget to ask her. At night, she’s still in a pull-up and the funny thing is that she’s back to waking up more at night now because she’s waking herself peeing and tries to get to the potty ASAP.
With some tips from Amy, we decided to give treats after a successful potty (2 M&M’s) and also a sticker on a chart. When she gets enough stickers (originally 5, now 6, soon 7) then she gets to look around in the ‘treat bag’ and pick a treat out of there. She skimmed all the really good stuff out of there pretty quickly and now she’s asked for more bracelets and ring pops as those seem to be her favorite.

Underwear and runners – that is one sweet combo for summer 2009!!
Good luck you guys…so NOT my favorite part of parenting but well worth the effort!
Dude…you are so brave! We haven’t quite gotten to that place with Deyen yet. He’s peed and pooed on the potty but only like a handful of times. I think we might have to just take the bull by the horns soon.
I like the treats idea, very clever!
